Keith Urban concert has dozens hospitalised for alcohol-related treatment

MUMBAI: Around 22 concert goers, at Keith Urban's Saturday night gig in Mansfield, Massachusetts, were taken to hospital for alcohol-related treatment. Reports stated that another 46 people were treated at the venue- Xfinity Center, while over 50 others from the concert were taken into protective police custody. Mansfield officials declared a mass casualty incident at the venue at around 9 pm.

In a joint statement by the fire departments and police from the town, authorities apparently called in ambulances from five different communities in the area, in order to deal with the crowd's medical requirement. Dozens attending the concert passed out, fell ill and injured themselves.

Mansfield Police Chief Ron Sellon and Fire Chief Neil Boldrighini said, "Last evening's Keith Urban concert was not anticipated to present with the volume of issues handled, but measures were in place to provide appropriate and adequate care and protection to all patrons. As a result, although there was a higher than expected volume, appropriate care was available through the expandable model."

The Australian country-rocker is currently on his ‘Raise ‘Em Up' tour, which is in support of his last album ‘Fuse', which released in September 2013. The 24-date tour next heads to Cincinnati on 31 July, and will eventually wrap up on 7 September in Wheatland.

Urban's recent concert is the second instance near Boston in which concert-goers were hospitalised and required medical attention. Last month, dozens of attendees at an Avicii concert, held at TD Garden Arena required immediate medical assistance due to over-intoxication.
