M&E industry to exceed Rs 1.75 tn by 2016: report

MUMBAI: India’s Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry is expected to exceed Rs 1.75 trillion (Rs 175,000 crores) and grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17 per cent from 2012 to 2016, as per CII-PwC report titled ‘ India Entertainment & media Outlook 2012. The report has been released today at the ‘India-Big Picture’ CII-Media and Entertainment Summit held at New Delhi.

Indian mobile handset sales touch 100mn units in 1H 2012: report

MUMBAI: Total shipments of mobile handsets in the country was recorded at 102.43 mn units during 1H 2012 (January-June 2012), according to CyberMedia Research's(CMR) India Mobile Handsets Market Review, 2Q 2012, September 2012 release. As per the report, total India shipments of smart phones were 5.50 mn units during the same period. In the handset division, Nokia led the race in the handset market with a total share of 22.2 per cent in the unit shipments followed by Samsung at 13 per cent and Micromax at 5.5 per cent.

Tewari becomes Minister of State(Information and Broadcasting) with independent charge and replaces Ambika Soni, who resigned as the I&B Minister on 27 October, a day ahead of the Cabinet reshuffle.

The oldest and world’s first recorded blooper capturing the first ever musical performance has been unveiled in Schenectady, New York. Samsung posts profit of 7.4 billion USD in Q3

MUMBAI: Continuing with their record run of high profit statements, Samsung has posted a profit of 7.4 billion USD in the third quarter with strong sales of its Galaxy range of phones in the global smartphone market. Samsung Electronics Co stated that the July-September net profit nearly doubled to 6.56 trillion won ($5.9 billion) with revenue for the third quarter climbing 26 per cent to 52.18 trillion won ($47.5 billion).

MUMBAI: In spite of a high profile international single release and an expected follow up album in the cards, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra says she gets the butterflies in her stomach when offered to sing for Bollywood films. "I was offered to sing whether it's by Salim-Sulaiman or Vishal-Shekhar, but I was too shy for it. I used to try singing on the mic at their insistence but then I use to feel shy and back out saying 'I can't do this'. I had even recorded a song with Vishal- Shekhar for Bluffmaster, but the song was not released," Chopra said.

Pandora stocks slide on reported Apple-radio talks

MUMBAI: Pandora Media Inc. shares tumbled after a Bloomberg report surfaced that Apple Inc. is planning its own radio service for an early 2013 launch. The sharp drop for Pandora shares tripped two circuit breakers within a matter of 10 minutes. Circuit breakers are intended to limit violent swings in individual stocks. Shares of Pandora Media slumped 11.73% to $8.20 in Thursday’s session and made a new low of $7.32. However, the stock recovered three percent in the pre-open session.
