Rahman gets three Oscar nominations for Slumdog

MUMBAI: After a Golden Globe award for best music score for Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle's feature film on the Mumbai underbelly, A R Rahman has now been nominated for Best Original Score, and Best Song (One each for Jai Ho and O Saya) at the Academy Awards, announced late yesterday. It is the first international recognition for Veteran lyricist Gulzar, who has penned the lyrics for Jai ho... that has been nominated for best original song for the 81st Annual Academy Awards.

Sushma Reddy encourages voters to take action Fataafat at Radio One Studios

MUMBAI: Sushma Reddy joined Radio One RJ's at the station in a bid to promote the popular I-Vote campaign, an initiative by a group of young people that encourages other young people to vote. The station which had earlier played an active role as the city's watchdog through the terror attacks encouraging people to unite under its One Spirit. Take-off time at Channel [V] Launchpad

MUMBAI: The best bands from across the nation will be taking centre stage for the elimination rounds of channel [V] Launchpad III on 27 January 2009 at the Andheri sports complex, Mumbai. Channel [V] Launch Pad has zeroed down on 16 bands who will compete over eight weeks for their ticket to fame. At the end of eight weeks, based on the weekly cumulative ratings, four bands will be chosen to perform at the mega finals. Only seven bands will finally make to the show who will be trained and judged by music bigwig Vishal Dadlani, Shaair n Funk and Ashu-Dhruv.

Obama musical planned in England

MUMBAI: Performances of the new stage musical "Obama on My Mind" are scheduled to begin at Islington's Hen and Chickens Theatre in March, Playbill.com said. U.S. crime writer and filmmaker Teddy Hayes, who has lived in England for the past 13 years, penned the book, music and lyrics for the show about the new American President Barack Obama. Previews for the musical are to begin March 3, while the show's opening night is slated for March 5.

AIR Imphal's music fest held

MUMBAI: THE ALL India Radio, Imphal this evening organised a magnificent Folk, Light and Choir Music Festival in its premises. The programme in which cultural troupes of different communities presented folk and modern songs was broadcast live from 3 pm onwards both channels of AIR Imphal? Kangla and Sangai. Three female singers recognised by All India Radio as top grade artists were honoured on the occasion. Deputy Director General, NER-II, C Lalrosanga handed over certificates of honour to the three eminent folk singers.
