Anu Malik: "I had never gone anywhere to comeback"

MUMBAI: Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Shootout At Wadala’ will feature three songs by music composer Anu Malik while Meet Brothers and Anand Raj Anand have also composed tunes for the film. Award winning composer Sir Richard Rodney Bennett passes away

MUMBAI: Winner of BAFTA award and Oscar nominated composer, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett passed away on Christmas Eve (24 December) in New York. Aged 76, Bennett was a composer of classical and jazz music, regularly performing as a jazz pianist and regarded as being one of the most accomplished jazz pianists of his generation. His major works included three symphonies and an opera, The Mines of Sulphur and Reflections on a Scottish Folk Song for cello and string orchestra, which was commissioned by Prince Charles to commemorate his grandmother the Queen.

Maestro Ilayaraja receives Sangeet Natak Akademi award

NEW DELHI: Epoch-making South Indian composer Ilayaraja is among nine artistes from the field of music who will receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2012, while Grammy Award-winning percussionist TH Vinayakram and veteran playwright Ratan Thiyam are among three personalities chosen for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi fellowship. The Akademi has selected 36 persons from the fields of music, dance, theatre and puppetry for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 2012.

AIR FM needs over 500 transmitters to reach more than 80 per cent of the country

NEW DELHI: All India Radio does not have any FM stations in 160 of the cities included in Phase III license auctions. According to the ‘Poised for Growth: FM radio in India’ study by Confederation of Indian Industry and Ernst & Young, Prasar Bharati proposes to provide FM transmitters with programme production facilities at 20 of these cities. This scheme has been proposed in the Twelfth Plan, subject to availability of funds. Consequently, AIR FM Radio requires more than 500 transmitters to increase its coverage to more than 80 per cent of the country.

Sunburn partners Techzone for international music

MUMBAI: Asia’s premier dance music festival Sunburn has partnered with content aggregator Techzone to create a WAP page offering users access to international music and informative content on the fest. The fest will offer a single platform titled ‘Playground’ store, through which music aficionados can browse and download tracks from a library of over 2,00,000 songs from major labels like Universal Music Group and Sony Music International. As part of the association, the WAP page allows fans unlimited free access for three days.

Raja Baath launches single track on friendship

NEW DELHI: Singer and performer Raja Baath who had earlier launched ‘Chaska’ with rap singer Honey Singh (also known as Yo! Yo! Honey Singh), has now launched a punjabi single ‘Yaari’ under his own production company RB Entertainers. The pre-production work for this solo track related to music and direction has been handled by the singer himself and the lyrics are by Pali. The single has been launched in both audio and video format.
