Mirchi loses lead margin in metros, Big rules Bangalore

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi's long standing stranglehold over the metros appears to be weakening, if RAM's week 35 figures are to be believed.

The leader has given way to Big FM in Bangalore for the past couple of weeks, but even in the capital, Fever is giving Mirchi a tough fight for its money. Big FM is also snapping at Mirchi's heels in Kolkata and Red is narrowing the position between itself and the ENIL radio venture in Mumbai, fighting to regain lost glory.

Pard community radio hits the airwaves

MUMBAI: Madurai based community radio - Vaanoli by The  People Association of Rural Development (PARD) was officially inaugurated on 8 September 2009.

It was inaugurated by Madurai district collector  Dr G Nammalvar who opened the recording room and Dr Sundara Aavudaiyappan, Programme Executive, All India Radio, Madurai Radio opened the broadcasting room.

The station was launched in presence of the local village community and local body members from various villages. Naguveer Prakash from Kalanjiam Radio also participated in this programme.

Mirchi continues reign in three metros, Big rules in Bangalore

MUMBAI: Big FM slipped marginally in Bangalore but still held on its lead, depriving Mirchi again of the opportunity to reign across all the four markets where RAM operates, in week 34.

All India Radio's Gold station stayed at third place in Mumbai and Delhi, giving the rest of the private FM stations a run for their money.

MUMBAI: Big FM's efforts to woo the Bangalore listeners appears to be working with the station inching slowly but surely past Radio Mirchi which has maintained its stranglehold over the other metros, according to RAM data for week 33.

The other equations remain largely unchanged.

Big leads in B'lore, Mirchi in other three metros

MUMBAI: Big FM maintains its number one position in Bangalore and Radio Mirchi continues to be the ruler in other metros of Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai for the 32nd week.

Radio City merged as a surprise by climbing up to third position in Mumbai after a lull of few weeks.

MUMBAI: The lead that Big FM snatched from the metro ruler Mirchi was kept up in week 31, with Big FM valiantly trying to catch up in Kolkata as well.

Radio Mirchi however kept up its seven week lead in metros except Bangalore. Interestingly, All India Radio's FM Gold station maintained itself in the third position in Delhi as well as Mumbai.

Big FM sneaks ahead of Mirchi in Bangalore

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi's stranglehold over the top position in the metros weakened in week 30 with Big FM breaking the jinx in Bangalore. In the other metros however, Mirchi's dominance refused to give in to the rivals.

Gyan Vani to add 11 more FM radio stations soon

NEW DELHI: The number of Gyan Vani FM Radio channels set up by the Human Resources Development Ministry and the Indira Gandhi National Open University with the help of Prasar Bharati will go up to 37 shortly, with 11 more channels coming up in Phase-1.

These 37 stations, with a radius of 60 to 70 km, are dedicated FM stations for education and broadcast programmes of interest to students. Some of these are located in places such as Jabalpur, Raipur, Guwahati, Shillong, etc. which have significant remote areas with tribal population in their reach.

Mirchi maintains status quo, AIR's Gold is no.3 in Delhi, Mumbai

MUMBAI: There have been no major upsets in the RAM figures for week 29, just out. While other stations have claimed leads in certain demographics and certain time slots during the past week, the overall leadership position has been maintained by Radio Mirchi in the metros.

Mumbai Univ's CR station Radio Must starts two new shows

MUMBAI: Mumbai University's community radio station, Radio Must has two new shows in its offering.

The station has started a show on HIV awareness three weeks back where people can call in and ask questions. Explains Station Head Pankaj Athavale, We have a counselor coming whom people can call in for their queries. The counselor will talk about other aspects such as prevention and precautions.... The show will be multi-lingual so as to attract listeners from all economic background.
