Ahmedabad's Mahila Sewa Trust to start its CRS

MUMBAI: Mahila Sewa Trust, Ahmedabad has been given permission for establishing, maintaining and operating a community radio station and is expected to be operational within three months.

Mahila Sewa (Self Employed women association) was set up on 18 June 1975 under the Bombay Public Trust act. Its main goals are to organise women workers for full employment and self reliance. It also organises women to ensure that they obtain full employment apart from providing childcare, healthcare, insurance and conducts trainings and seminars.

Mussoorie school to start own CR station

MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has given the go ahead to Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School, Mussoorie in Uttarakhand to operate its own Community radio station, â€?Radio Khushi' 

The school has been granted its GOPA by the ministry for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station and the station is expected to be operational within three months, as per the agreement.

Mirchi holds lead in Delhi, Kolkata, comes close second in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi has held on its lead in Kolkata and Delhi, ahead of competitors, and has gained considerably in Mumbai to come a close second behind leader Red FM. In Bangalore, even though Mirchi comes second, leader Big FM stayed ahead in the game with a lead of almost four per cent, according to Ram data just out for week 22.

South India to get two new CR stations

MUMBAi: The I&B ministry has cleared the way for two new community radio stations to start operating in south India.

The  People Association of Rural Development (PARD) will soon launch its community radio at Pudupatty in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. Community Radio Station at Wayanad Social Service Society, Mananthvady, Kerala is the other community radio to start its transmission shortly

Radio Mirchi emerges topper in election advtg

MUMBAI: That political advertising emerged as a breather for private FM radio stations during the tough times of the slowdown has now been validated by RAM data.

Election campaign advertising stood tall at 22,634 minutes occupying 13.3 per cent share of total advertising on radio, followed by TV Channel Promotions which came a poor second at 10,404 minutes and independent retailers which took up 7,558 minutes. Media observers point it as an expected steep for the months of April and May where independent retailers took a setback.

Ofcom gives nod for three community radio licences

MUMBAI: British media regulator Ofcom has awarded three new community radio licences to Huntingdon Community Radio (HCR), Intobeats and Ashford Hospital Broadcasting Service (AHBS) for a period of five years.

This takes the number of community radio licences awarded by Ofcom to over 200.

HCR FM will provide its audience with familiar music and local news and information for the people in Huntingdon.

CR station to come up at Tilonia in Rajasthan

NEW DeLHI: Barefoot College Tilonia in Ajmer, Rajasthan, has been given permission to establish, maintain and operate a Community Radio Station (CRS) and is expected to be operational within three months 

Tilonia is a village of about 2000 inhabitants situated 400 miles south-west of Delhi, best known for the success of its grassroots empowerment movement spearheaded by the Social Works and Research Centre (popularly known as The Barefoot College).
