Bollywood music industry salutes Parliament for Copyright Amendment Act 2012

MUMBAI: A galaxy of Bollywood's top musicians and composers will celebrate the passing of Copyright Amendment Act 2012 by performing a concert 'The Shukrana show' on 23 August at the Parliament's 'GMC Balayogi Hall'. The newly passed bill makes it mandatory for music companies and producers to share royalty with singers, lyricists and scriptwriters. Confirming the news to Radioandmusic.com, Ehsaan Noornani said, "We will perform along with other artistes at the Parliament to celebrate the passing of Copyright Bill."

MTV India expands in Middle East & North Africa

MUMBAI: IndiaCast, TV18 and Viacom18’s venture announced the launch of international version of MTV India in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. With this launch, MTV India's international distribution footprint will spans across 31 countries. The channel featuring music and youth reality content from India in Hindi language, will complement Viacom International Media Networks’ (VIMN) existing MTV channel, which services the Middle East and North Africa region with Arabic and international music and entertainment content.

Govt. revenue from AIR is higher than private FM radio stations

NEW DELHI: The Government has earned Rs 153.068 million as revenue from private FM stations and Rs 340.385 million from All India Radio, till the month of June of the current year 2012-13 . Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting C M Jatua told Parliament today that the revenue from private FM channels over the past few years had been: Rs 503.989 million (2009-10); Rs 494.162 million (2010-11), and Rs 638.683 million (2011-12).

Daler Mehndi honoured with Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award 2012

MUMBAI: Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi was bestowed with the 'Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award 2012'.  The Indi-pop veteran was awarded 'singer of the year' by Punjab governor Shivraj Patil on 20 August at New Delhi. 16 people from different fields were honoured on the 68 birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Delhi High Court believes short usage of musical works is not infringement

NEW DELHI: Use of few words from a song or a few lines from a lyric does not amount to infringement of copyright, the Delhi High Court held today. Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Manmohan Singh addressed this to 'fair use' and'de minimus’ - very little usage compared to the whole programme.
