Killer Mike handcuffed and escorted out after winning three awards

MUMBAI: Los Angeles police spokesperson Mike Lopez informed the Associated Press that the detention occurred in connection to an altercation within the Crypto.com Arena, where the ceremony took place.

Killer Mike, 48, was charged with a misdemeanor, and as Mr. Lopez added, he was later released with a court appearance scheduled later this month. Footage from the incident depicted Killer Mike, also known as Michael Render, being escorted in handcuffs by police officers.

This incident unfolded shortly after the rapper and political activist secured three Grammy awards, marking his first win in two decades. His track "Scientists & Engineers," featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane, received awards for the best rap song and best rap performance.

Additionally, Killer Mike claimed a third Grammy for the best rap album with his work "Michael." Upon receiving the awards, the 48-year-old artist expressed, "This is for all the people who think you're too old to rap... we keep hip-hop alive. Never ever stop doing what you do."

Witnesses at the arena reportedly heard someone shouting "free Mike" as the rapper was being led away. Killer Mike has been an outspoken advocate on issues confronting black Americans, such as police brutality and racism.

While Taylor Swift dominated the Grammy Awards, making history with her fourth win for the best album, the incident added a dramatic turn to Killer Mike's triumphant night.
