EU puts a bar on MP3 volume levels

MUMBAI: European Union has introduced volume restrictions on MP3 players fearing that listening to the portable music players at high volume could cause hearing damage. Studies found some portable music players have a sound level of beyond 115 decibels - a noise to which workers are not allowed to be exposed for more than 30 seconds. Now the European Union is ready to tell firms such as iPod maker Apple to turn down the volume after a big rise in young people seeking help for hearing problems.

Copyright Board royalty hearing disappoints again

MUMBAI: After the last copyright hearing on 26 August, the Copyright Board commenced its hearing on the music royalty issue between the radio and music industry on Monday. During the last hearing that lasted from 24 to 26 August, the radio industry had expressed its displeasure over the slow procedure adopted by the music industry. In the first hearing today, only two radio witnesses were examined by the music industry. The hearing will last for two days and a few radio witnesses will be questioned.

IMA's national talent hunt yields six winners

MUMBAI: The Indian Music Academy announced the names of six winners from among 18 finalists of its national level talent hunt on 12 December 2009. S Akash (12 yrs, Flute) Gurpreet Kaur (23yrs, Santoor) Kakali Bhattacharya (32 yrs, Thumri) Ramendra Singh Solanki (22 yrs, Tabla) Prabhakar - 27yrs and Divakar Kashyap - 25 yrs (Hindustani classical vocal) and S Jananiy (18 yrs, Carnatic vocal) are the chosen six.

Meow FM appoints Adhir Bhogte as national sales head

MUMBAI: Meow FM has appointed Adhir Bhogte as national sales head. Based out of Mumbai, Bhogte will assume office on 14 December and will report to India Today Group CEO Ashish Bagga. Confirming the development to Indiantelevision.com Bhogte says, "Yes, I will be joining Meow FM as national sales head." Grammy to honour MJ posthumously

MUMBAI: Deceased pop star Michael Jackson along with Leonard Cohen, Bobby Darin, Loretta Lynn, Clark Terry, Dave Edwards and Andre Previn will be awarded a lifetime achievement Grammy, the US Recording Academy has announced. The lifetime achievement awards will be handed out on 30 January, a day before the main awards ceremony.
