Delhi 6, Dev D win at Screen Awards

MUMBAI: The best Music Director Award was bagged by A R Rahman for Delhi 6 at the Star Screen Awards held over the weekend in Mumbai. Delhi 6 was a clear winner for its wonderful line up of compositions, and Dev D, that had another winning background score composed by Amit Trivedi, walked away with the Best Background Score award. Kavitha Seth won the best Female Play back Singer for Iktara from Wake Up Sid, and Rahat  Fateh Ali Khan won the best Male Playback Singer for  Aaj Din Chaddeya from Love Aaj Kal.

Illegal music sharing: Oink founder made ?188,000

MUMBAI: The music world has been stunned by the new developments in the Oink case and the fact that the owner pocketed ?188,000 from his controversial website oink.cd. According to fresh reports, founder Alan Ellis is said to have made ?188,000 from the website he set up in 2004. The site did not host music, but members allegedly indexed files for people to download. Oink had close to 200,000 users.

Times, Saregama join hands for tome, CD pack on Indian film music history

Jai Ho distributor Iovine invests in Desi Hits to promote desi-intl collaboration

MUMBAI: Fast growing portal Desi Hits.com has found an investor in Jimmy Iovine, the distributor of the Oscar winning soundtrack of Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire. Sony pumps in Rs 8 million for MJ-This Is It DVD launch

MUMBAI: After the theatrical release of MJ's This is It, Sony Pictures has planned a global release of the film on the DVD format on 26 January. Pegged as Sony's biggest ever DVD launch, the label has allocated Rs. eight million towards a media campaign to promote Michael Jackson's documentary. This is expected to be the biggest home video release in India with over 10 million units of DVD, VCD, memory cards and Blu-ray discs over various SKUs to be shipped out in the initial launch.

Shafqat Amanat Ali set to release 'Kyun Dooriyan', his second after Tabeer

MUMBAI: From among the few non-film albums that released last year, it was only Pakistan born singer Shafqat Amanat Ali's first debut solo album Tabeer that hooked listeners. The former Fuzon singer is now back with his second album with Music Today titled 'Kyun Dooriyan' and is due for release in February 2010. Speaking about his new album from Pakistan, Shafqat Amanat Ali says, "Tabeer was more traditional and upbeat in its approach, but my new album will have a lot more emphasis on the lyrics."

Worldspace India team appeals to PM for intervention

MUMBAI:  300 employees of Worldspace  India have, in a letter to prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh sent on Tuesday, urged for immediate government intervention to ensure that the the radio service continues in India; and that the exit of the radio service  be allowed only after following the due process applicable to any other media or telecom service in India.
