UK’s funky and bassline mainstay Champion gears for debut India tour

MUMBAI: The East London BeatSmith will make his Indian debut with shows in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. A man with a penchant for low-end bass lines and dazzling rhythmic patterns, Champion made his mark on the UK underground scene in 2011 with his breakthrough release Motherboard EP. Since then, he has been regarded as a pioneer of UK Funky and has performed at high-profile events and festivals like Glastonbury, Outlook and Field Day.

Champion counts publications such as The Guardian, Pitchfork and FACT as firm admirers of his craft, and figureheads like Four Tet, Ben UFO, Mark Ronson and Benji B are often caught dropping his latest productions in their sets.  He is also the founder of Formula Records – an imprint at the forefront of UK’s underground club music that has featured releases by renowned artists including Zed Bias, Flava D, Terror Danjah and the label head himself.

Champion will kick start his tour in Delhi at boxout.fm’s weekly residency Boxout Wednesdays at Summer House Café, travelling to Khar Social in Mumbai with JD (Gully Gang) and will play his final show of this tour in Bangalore at Church Street Social with RHL.

“Champion’s own personal mission statement is simply to put out the sickest tracks, making sure all the while that no dope music is left unheard. Champion by name, champion by nature,” quoted a leading magazine.

This tour is organized by Mumbai based music management company Mixtape whose recent repertoire of tours include Grammy-winning Tinariwen and critically acclaimed artists like Telefon Tel Aviv, Zero 7, Flava D, Buttering Trio, Bill Brewster to name a few.
