Rochak Kohli: It was Ayushmann Khurrana who suggested my name for 'Hawaizaada'

MUMBAI: Rochak Kohli, who recently composed the single 'Mitti De Khushboo' with Ayushmann Khurrana, has directed music for three songs in the film 'Hawaizaada'. The song 'Hawaaizaada Dil' was composed first, and was followed by 'Turram Khan' and 'Daak Ticket'. Khurrana and Kohli had previously teamed up for Bollywood projects like 'Nautanki Saala' and 'Vicky Donor'. The film is directed by Vibhu Puri and the film is based on an Indian scientist Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, who constructed India's first unmanned plane.

"It was Ayushmann who suggested my name to Vibhu Puri. Initially, he was skeptical as I am known for composing Punjabi romantic songs. When I met him, he clearly told me that he was looking for a different score and if he does not like the sound, he will not get back to me. He handed over the script and post reading it, I composed music for the title track 'Hawaaizaada Dil' and sent it to Puri. I did not get any response from him that night. But, the next morning at eight, I got a call from him that he loved the song and then asked me to compose a couple of other tracks for the film as well," said Kohli, who has also sung the title track.

He is very happy to have got a film like 'Hawaizaada' added to his kitty because very few people get an opportunity to learn more. According to him for a composer, the script of the film plays a vital role in the process of creating music. "Particularly for making music for a period film like 'Hawaizaada', where the situation in the film is completely different, script is something that you can rely on and then make music accordingly. This also helps you actually zero down on the singers who will render their vocals to the song," explained Kohli.

When asked how long it took to compose music for the film he chuckled, "Since September 2013, to a fortnight before the music release, we were working on it. Generally it does not happen that way, but for this film things went back and forth. But the best part was that all of us, including Vibhu were so passionately involved with the project that we never got irritated," elaborated Kohli.

His upcoming project includes films like 'Welcome to Karachi' and couple of other film with T-Series.
