The Black Keys selling shirts for childhood baseball league

MUMBAI: American rocker duo The Black Keys are giving back to their hometown of Ohio by raising funds for the West Akron Baseball League. After sponsoring their childhood little league baseball team last year, the band will attempt to help out the entire league this year by selling t-shirts on its website.

Proceeds from the t-shirt sale will be given to the West Akron Baseball League which will help fund a number of reforms. According to reports, the league will buy new uniforms, restore backstops and benches and upgrade its equipment, while replaced equipment will be given to baseball leagues in other areas. In addition to this, the funds will help keep the league's registration fees at a practical rate.

Speaking about the benefit, The Black Keys' drummer Patrick Carney said, “Dan (Auerbach) and I played little league when we were kids before we got into music, it was a really positive hobby that kept us from sitting around watching TV. We are proud to be sponsoring W.A.B.L to hopefully offset some of the leagues expenses and get more kids outside having fun."

Fans can choose between a navy tee and a grey hoodie, both of which feature ‘THE BLACK KEYS AKRON OH' on the front. The t-shirts have been designed by Carney's brother- Michael, who is also creative director for the band.

Meanwhile, the band is reportedly working on the follow-up to their 2011 album ‘El Camino', which won them three Grammy Awards.
