Sony plans global mktg push for 'My Name is Khan' music

MUMBAI: After bagging projects like Wake Up Sid, Tum Mile, Kurbaan and What's Your Rashee in 2009, Sony Music has more lined up for 2010, including the Shah Rukh- Kajol starer 'My Name is Khan' whose music was released earlier this month. Divulging the marketing and promotion plans of the film, Sony Music marketing director Sanujeet Bhujabal says, "With My Name is Khan, we have developed an extensive and aggressive plan to deploy the music in all the key global markets for marketing Bollywood music to the world at large.

Kannada composer C Ashwath no more

MUMBAI: Prominent Kannada composer C Ashwath who was known for his Bhavageete and Janapada Geete in the Kannada language is no more. He was suffering from liver and kidney failure. Ironically, the veteran composer passed of on his birthday, 29 December. He was 71.

Biopic on Mohammad Rafi released

NEW DELHI: A documentary film �Rafi-Tum Bahut Yaad Aaye' made by Kuldeep Sinha, the Chief Producer of Films Division, was launched in the capital recently. The documentary relates the story of the legendary singer through interviews with his son and several music directors and singers, sequences from his recordings, and song sequences from many memorable films. The event was held to coincide with his 85th birth anniversary which falls on 24 December.

Indian Ocean's Asheem Chakravarty no more

MUMBAI: Asheem Chakravarty, the singer-percussionist of India's leading rock band Indian Ocean is no more. The talented musician succumbed to a heart attack on 25 December, 2009. He was 50. Asheem had suffered an heart attack on October 14, 2009 in Doha airport while the band was en route from their US tour. It was reported that he condition was improving since then. However, his sudden demise on friday afternoon has shocked friends and fans all over the world.

Worldspace India to shut shop on 31 December

MUMBAI: On December 31, 2009, the WorldSpace satellite radio broadcast service will be terminated for all customers serviced from India, according to an announcement posted on the company website. This action is an outgrowth of the financial difficulties facing WorldSpace India's parent company, WorldSpace, Inc., which has been under bankruptcy protection since October 2008, the announcement says. WorldSpace is present in over 130 countries globally, and has already been in the process of closing down its operations in most other countries.
