MUMBAI: Radio City 91.1 FM is foraying into the audio book segment with �City of tales' in association with leading publisher of children's books, BPI India. The first two releases of �City of Tales' are Folk Tales and Animal Wisdom. Each title comprises of 5 stories and each story is about 8-10 minutes. The titles are available in Hindi and English. Interesting factoids help children improve vocabulary and general knowledge. The activity books available additionally will provide children with engaging and intelligent activities to help develop their minds

Mercedes Benz drives on radio with Hit FM

MUMBAI: To showcase the true strength of the medium, radio players have integrated with brands delivering value and are in constant run to tap virgin brands on radio. Delhi based radio venture Hit FM has roped in luxury automobile brand Mercedes to invest in radio for the first time in India. Although Mercedes has been investing in other media like television, print, outdoor, the brand had refrained from investing in radio till now.

Scorpions to quit music

MUMBAI: Germany based metal band, Scorpions have announced that they will be ending their career as a band after the release of their next album, �Sting In The Tail' on 19 March and a three-year mammoth tour that will take them across five continents. Founded in 1965, members of the successful band include Klaus Meine (vocals), Matthias Jabs (guitars), Rudolf Schenker (guitars), James Kottak (drums) and Pawel Maciwoda (bass).

Regional music stands tall at 56th National awards

MUMBAI: In the 56th annual National awards for films released in 2008, regional music made its presence felt by grabbing almost all the awards in the music category. Pune based composer duo Ajay-Atul bagged the best music director award for the Rajiv Patil directed Marathi film- Jogwa. The film also got Hariharan the best male playback singer award, while the best female playback singer went to  Shreya Ghoshal for the track- 'Jeev DanglaGungla Rangla' from the same film

Pandit Dinkar Kaikini no more

MUMBAI:  Singer, composer and guru of Agra-Bhatkhande tradition, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini who was also fondly known as 'Dinarang' passed away on 23 January 2010 around 10. 15 a.m. He was 82. Born in 1927 at Kaikini in South Karnataka, Kaikini was motivated to pursue music after he attended a concert where greats like Ustad Alladiya Khan, Ustad Faiyaz Khan and Ustad Abdul Karim Khan performed. Upon hearing Ustad Faiyaz Khan, the young boy knew that he must devote his life to this art form and to the particular style of Faiyaz Khan Saheb himself.

Mrinal Pande replaces Bhatnagar as Prasar Bharati chairperson

MUMBAI: The UPA government has announced the appointment of journalist and author Mrinal Pande as Prasar Bharati chairperson. Pande will replace Arun Bhatnagar, whose resignation was accepted by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry last month. Pande's term is valid till 30 April 2011. Bhatnagar had resigned from the post in May 2009 but the government accepted the resignation on 18 December. The post was lying vacant since then. At present, Prasar Bharati is managed by CEO BS Lalli.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy to compose for T-Series' Patiala House

MUMBAI: Close on the heels of Karthik Calling Karthik, composer trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy have been roped in to score the music for director Nikhil Advani's next film Patiala House. The film is a T-Series' presentation, currently being shot at Mehboob Studio till 4 February 2010 after completing an initial 11 days stint at Film City, Mumbai. Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma, Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Prem Chopra and others are participating in this marathon shooting spell.
