MUMBAI: Founder and bossman at drum n’ bass label Critical Sound, Kasra Mowlavi – better known as Kasra is headed to India next month for a four-city tour. The gigs, scheduled from 17- 20 August will see Kasra travel to Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune.

Established in 2002, the label spent its first ten years forging a deep catalogue of heady, dark, forward-facing breakbeat music, and then went into overdrive in the new decade with releases from acts like Enei, Foreign Concept, Mefjus and Emperor. In 2017, Critical Music reaches its 100th release in its 15th year, celebrating with the landmark album Fifteen Years of Underground Sonics. Spanning the broad spectrum of drum n’ bass that the Critical sound represents, the exceptional ‘15’ album is as bold as it is beautiful and looks to serve the test of time in the DnB history books.

In Kasra’s words, this album is an insight into Critical Music in 2017– essentially a prismatic representation of the genre.
One of drum and bass’ most emblematic labels, Critical Sound has come to be associated with curating a sound that’s experimental and encompassing of the genre’s myriad subgenres. And much of that balance of striking experimentalism with deadly functionality comes from Kasra’s personal music tastes.

His ear for the compelling and innovative is hugely respected on the underground circuit and has seen the upstart imprint hustle its way to the front of the line. As a DJ, Kasra has done what only a select few people around the world have managed in their careers – being asked to mix FabricLive62, which went on to be one of the most successful drum n’ bass mix albums of the year.

Since then Kasra has continued to play DJ sets and label events throughout the UK and around the world, from new year’s eve festival appearances in Australia to much-lauded sets at EDC Vegas and beyond. He handles a busy touring schedule alongside releasing music from the likes of Ivy Lab, Emperor, Hyroglifics and albums from Sam Binga, Enei and the technically gifted Mefjus.
