Garbage's Shirley Manson slams "small and petty" Kanye West

MUMBAI: Shirley Manson, of alt-rock band Garbage, has hit out at Kanye West for his rant against Beck after the Grammy Awards. During a post Grammy televised interview, the ‘Yeezus' rapper said that Beck, who won Album of the Year, should "respect artistry" and give the award to fellow nominee- Beyonce.

Following West's comments, Manson penned an open letter to the rapper, in which she calls him "petty and spoilt", and stands up for Beck. Manson began the letter writing, "Dear Kanye West It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry.

You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.

You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt."

She went on, "In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own.
Grow up and stop throwing your toys around.

You are making yourself look like a complete twat."

The Scottish born singer concluded, "Ps.I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn't need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she's got everything covered perfectly well on her own." The post, which is on Manson's Facebook page, has received over 60,000 'Likes' so far.

Not many have forgotten West's interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where he claimed Beyonce should have won the award. The 37 year old rapper came close to pulling a similar stunt at the Grammys when he went up on stage while Beck was receiving his Grammy for best album. Although he quickly retreated, West did make his feelings clear later in the night when he was interviewed.

Commenting on the Grammys, West said, "We ain't gonna play with them no more. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé. At this point - we're tired of it because what happens is, you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental music. You are disrespectful to inspiration."

Beck, meanwhile, has no hard feelings towards the rapper. When asked what he had to say about West's attack on him the 44 year old musician said, "You can't please everybody. I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to what he does. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?"
