Honey Singh forced to cancel New Year's Eve concert

NEW DELHI: Punjabi rap singer Honey Singh, whose scheduled New Year’s Eve concert in Gurgaon had been cancelled after a police complaint alleging obscenity was filed apart from strongly worded comments on Facebook and Twitter, has claimed that the cancellation was only because of the gang rape incident in Delhi. Singh’s manager Anup Kumar claimed the cancellation was only in solidarity with the anguish over the gang rape incident.

MUMBAI: After re-creating Rahman’s Vande Mataram for a bollywood music channel, world’s first Hindi a Cappella band Penn Masala is all set to perform across all Hard Rock Café (HRC) outlets in the country. Album sales in UK fell 11.2 per cent in 2012: report

MUMBAI: Describing the trends of the year gone by, annual album sales in UK fell 11.2 per cent in 2012 as the market shrunk by a fifth, although singles sales hit a new high according to a report by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). According to their figures, sales of albums on CD declined 19.5 per cent year-on-year to 69.4mn in 2012, as combined volume sales of digital and physical albums fell overall by 11.2 per cent to 100.5mn.

AR Rahman to compose for bilingual film 'Kaavia Thalaivan'

MUMBAI: Unveiling his single after a span of 15 years recently, music maestro AR Rahman is all geared up to compose for a bilingual film titled ‘Kaavia Thalaivan’. To be directed by Vasanthabalan, the film will be shot in Tamil and Telugu. The Oscar winning composer will score all the tracks in the film, set to go on floors soon. It will star actor Siddarth in the main lead, who had last teamed up with the composer for a Tamil film ‘Boys’ in 2003 and ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’ in 2004, and the hit Hindi film ‘Rang de Basanti’ in 2006.

Maton Guitar Competition winner announced by Haworth Music Centre

MUMBAI: In the six weeks leading up to Christmas, Haworth Music Centre ran a Facebook-based competition to win an Australian designed and made Maton Guitar. The winner was presented with his Maton EM325C acoustic guitar, just in time for Christmas, on December 21. Entries to the competition came from all over the world, with the only requirement being to ‘Like’ the Haworth Guitars Facebook page, and in 30 words or less say why they would like to win. The winning entry came from Brian Cameron.

Psy ends 'Gangnam Style' on New Year

MUMBAI:  Psy, who performed his hit song 'Gangnam Style' in Times Square, New York, for the US TV show Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, claimed that it could be the ending for  Gangnam Style. The South Korean sensation, real name Park Jae-sang, said to MTV news “Being in Times Square on New Year’s Eve is already special - it’s the biggest stage in the universe - plus it’s my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of ‘Gangnam Style’. “I mean, what better way to do it? It’s my biggest and most meaningful birthday.”

FM Radio ad revenues 25 per cent below pre-slowdown rates of 2008

NEW DELHI: The number of advertisers on FM radio has grown from 1,715 in 2005 to 5,581 in the period January to October 2012, while the number of brands has grown from 1,295 to 8,133 during the same period. Furthermore, the number of categories has risen from 285 in 2005 to 379 in January-October 2012 and the volume of hours has grown from 5,273 to 41,202 in the same period.
