L Subramaniam back with Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival

MUMBAI: Acclaimed violinist L Subramaniam will present music enthusiasts with a symphony of world music at the 21 edition of Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival. After a concert on 4 January in Mumbai, the last stop will be at Siri Fort in Delhi on 7 December.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, his wife Kavita Krishnamurthy said, “In honour of my late father-in -law legendary violinist V Lakshminarayana, we have been doing this international festival. It’s a global music festival in which we have Jazz, pop and western orchestra. We have musicians from many countries across US, Europe and many renowned Indian musicians.”

The concert which is a tribute to the legendary violinist V Lakshminarayana will feature Kavitha Krishnamurthy along with daughter Bindu, son Ambi and vocalist Narayana. The festival will also feature the famous keyboard player from the US, Chris Rhyne and Froy Agre, an acclaimed Norwegian saxophonist.

Being a free event, it gives a chance for music lovers to witness the work of musicians and artistes from around the globe, on first -come –first- serve basis. Violinist and son of Dr L Subramaniam, Ambi said, “Chennai and Bengaluru was totally over flowing, there were people in the aisle, people standing in the auditorium and we had people from watching from outside. The audience response was so far so good.”

Speaking on classical music, he said, “Classical Music is going strong not only in India but other parts of the world like United States, Germany and France. I think if we have to grow, we have to come out of India as well. It‘s great and I am hopeful it will continue growing.”

The fest took place at Chennai (27 Dec), Bangalore (30 Dec), Mysore (31 Dec) and Kolkata (2 Jan).
