An Indo Dutch musical affair: Song of Water Adds Vibrancy to New Delhi second addition of Tulip Festival

MUMBAI: In a collaborative effort between the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), the second Tulip Festival commenced from February 10–20, 2024. This event served as a significant platform for deepening the cultural bonds between the Netherlands and India. As a part of the ongoing festival, an open-air Indo-Dutch musical masterpiece, "Song of Water," was held on February 17, 2024.

Composed and performed by the renowned Indo-Dutch couple Pandit Shubhendra Rao and Maestro Saskia Rao-de Haas, along with Shri Pranshu Chaturlal and Shri Heiko, "Song of Water" mesmerized audiences in the tranquil surroundings of Nehru Park and set against the backdrop of blooming tulips in eight vibrant colours. This collaboration not only showcased the artistic brilliance of both nations but also symbolized the deep-rooted friendship shared between India and the Netherlands.

The Tulip Festival holds significant importance as it marks 75 years of India-Netherlands diplomatic ties. In 2022, 'Maitri' tulip was baptized during the former Indian President's visit to the Netherlands, signifying a poignant moment in bilateral history.

Building upon the resounding success of last year's success, 40,000 tulip bulbs bloomed at Shantipath, enhancing the Tulip Walk exhibition. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and NDMC continue their partnership, fostering connections through tulip beauty. Ambassador Marisa Gerards and Chairman Amit Yadav lead the Tulip Walk, showcasing Tulip's journey and offering visitors a vibrant celebration of art, history, and cultural exchange.

In her address, Ambassador Marisa Gerards encapsulated the essence of the Tulip Festival, emphasizing the robust ties between India and the Netherlands and the positive connections they foster. She stated, “It’s heartwarming to witness tulips uniting people, bridging gaps, and nurturing connections transcending borders."

As the festival draws to a close, its legacy of harmony and friendship will continue to blossom, echoing the sentiments of unity and goodwill between the two nations.
