9XM to unveil new animated character by March, plans website revamp

MUMBAI: It is one of the only music channels that has stayed away from the charm of reality shows. With its burgeoning TRPs, 9XM is on the top of the number game currently and making no attempt to be modest about it. Talking about the growth of the channel in the year gone by, INX media music entertainment head Vikas Varma says, "2009 has been a wonderful year for us and we are looking forward to the this year. We are the only music channel who have earned profits as shown by the record books. We have retained our top position in the market."

Savai Gandharva festival '10 gets more colourful

MUMBAI: The 57th Sawai Gandharva Music Festival is back starting from 7 January 2010. However, this year it's not just about music as the fetival will features photography exhibitions, a film festival and special listening session. Last year, the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal had posponed the 57th edition due to the H1N1 scare.

Berklee College of Music eyes India

MUMBAI: India's aspiring music students can rejoice. The process of auditioning for the prestigious Berklee College of Music will be a lot more cheaper as the Boston based music college would be coming to India in February 2010 to conduct their first auditions in Mumbai and Delhi. A Delhi based music school, Performers Collective has partnered with Berklee and would be hosting them in India. Says Performers Collective founder Jack Thomas, "Berklee has started to see India as the next big destination for student intake.

Sony unveils slimmest Walkman A845

MUMBAI: Sony has added another Walkman to its range - the A845, touted as the slimmest Walkman ever. Measuring in at 7.2mm thick and weighing 62 grams, it features a 2.8-inch OLED screen, 16GB storage and up to 29 hours of audio playback or 9 hours of video. The player features Clear Stereo... functionality to reduce audio leakage between left and right channels and a feature for automatically recovering audio detail typically lost when CD quality music is compressed into MP3.

Eastwind Music Fest 2010 called off

MUMBAI: It was hailed as the 'Woodstock of India' and was to have livened up the beginning of 2010 in the national capital, but the Eastwind Music Festival has just announced that the January 2010 festival has been cancelled. The festival that was scheduled for the last week of January 2010, was expecting participation from close to 60 national and international bands over a period of three days.

Assocham urges for 49 pc FDI ceiling in FM sector

MUMBAI: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) on Sunday urged the government to hike FDI ceilings in FM radio from existing 20 per cent to 49 per cent. Stressing the need to streamline Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regimes in Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector, the Chamber also proposed that FDI limit in Cable Networks should also go up to 74 per cent from the existing limit of 49 per cent and in uplinking a News and Current Affairs TV Channel it be raised to 49 per cent from current level of 26 per cent.
