Birthday wishes for melody queen Alka Yagnik

MUMBAI: Playback singer Alka Yagnik born on 20 March 1966 turned a year older today. The National Film Award winner is one of the most versatile singers in the music industry. Not only is she popular for singing Bollywood songs but Alka has also sung in Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Manipuri, Nepali, Rajasthani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.

'Chand Chupa Badal Mein' singer got her first break as a singer at the age of six at All India Radio (AIR). She has most number of Filmfare Awards won (7) by a single female playback singer. Her first Bollywood break was in the 1979 film ‘Payal Ki Jhankaar’ followed by 'Laawaris' (1981). She sung one fo the most famous songs ‘Mere Angne Mein’ for the Amitabh Bachchan starrer film.

Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, Khalnayak (1993)

It's one of the greatest song ever made. It is very captivating lyrically and extremely innovative musically all due credit to the singer Alka Yagnik. She sung this song with Ila Arun for which both the singers shared Filmfare Award for best playback singing.

Ek Do Teen, Tezaab (1988)

This song was a huge hit, letting Alka make her identity in Bollywood music industry. Laxmikant-Pyarelal directed music for the film.

Agar Tum Saath Ho, Tamasha (2015)

Alka gave an outstanding track with singer Arijit Singh in 'Agar Tum Saath Ho.' This is one of Yagnik's recent hits. The songs composed by Oscar winning music composer A.R. Rahman.

Koi Jaye Toh Le Jaye, Ghatak (1996)

The extremely energetic song composed by R.D. Burman and Anu Malik can make anybody dance like insane. No wonder, only Alka would have done justification to this much-heated track.

Laal Dupatta, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004)

There is something about the song that sends chills down your spine and make you want to sing along every time. Alka along with Udit Narayan created a perfect gel for the fans.
