Birth centenaries of Ustad Bismillah Khan and M S Subbulakhshmi to be marked this year

New Delhi: The National Implementation Committee today finalized details of the birth centenaries of shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan and carnatic vocalist M S Subbulakshmi.

The Committee also stressed the need for creation of infrastructure at the birthplace of each personality was emphasized in order to create a permanent remembrance of the personality.

The Meeting of the Committee was held here under the Chairmanship of Home Minister Rajnath Singh to consider proposals regarding Commemoration of the birth centenary of several personalities including the two music maestros.

Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma who is an Ex-officio Member of NIC was present.The meeting was attended by Culture Secretary N K Sinha, Benares Hindu University Vice Chancellor Prof Girish Chandra Tripathi, representatives of many organizations of the Ministry and NGOs and senior officers of the Ministries of Culture, Finance, and Information & Broadcasting.

The meeting was held to discuss modalities for these commemorations which are going to be celebrated during the current financial year.

A number of proposals which have been received by the Culture Ministry from various sectors were considered during the meeting and decisions were taken thereon.

The National Implementation Committee (NIC) was constituted in March.
