Vevo partners with EMI for music streaming

MUMBAI: Vevo, the new music video and entertainment service site, has announced an agreement with EMI Music apart from Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment in providing music fans with professionally-created video content when the service debuts on December 8 in the United States and Canada. Vevo launched as both a Web site and an embedded video player is created in partnership by Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and Abu Dhabi Media Company has been launched powered by YouTube.

Naga band wins Hornbill rock contest

MUMBAI:  A rock band from Nagaland has won the Hornbill national rock contest 2009, in which a total of 20 bands from different cities of the country participated. "OFF", the band from Nagaland was awarded Rs 5,00,000 and a Casio WK 3300 synthesizer after the grand finale of the contest which concluded midnight last night, according to a PTI report. "Hypnosis" from New Delhi and "Kaivaalya" from Kolkata were adjudged second and third respectively.

Canadian rock band Diemonds scheduled for India tour

MUMBAI: Bombay Rock Association and Percept Networks are bringing down canadian rock n' roll band Diemonds between 11 and 23 December 2009. Though the band rose to popularity in Canada, it does have an Indian connection in lead vocalist Priya Panda, "It'll be a spiritual journey for me. I've wanted to come to India with a band since I read about the Beatles coming here when I was a small child. This will be my first time out with Diemonds and I know it won't be the last. Zakir Hussain in Grammy race again

MUMBAI: The number of Indians staking their claim to the coveted Grammy is growing by the day. Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has been nominated for the 52nd Grammy award in the Best Classical Crossover album category for the album "The Melody of Rhythm," according to PTI. "The Melody of Rhythm" consists of artists like Leonard Slatkin, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer apart from Zakir Hussain, says a press statement.
