Vevo partners with EMI for music streaming

MUMBAI: Vevo, the new music video and entertainment service site, has announced an agreement with EMI Music apart from Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment in providing music fans with professionally-created video content when the service debuts on December 8 in the United States and Canada.

Vevo launched as both a Web site and an embedded video player is created in partnership by Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and Abu Dhabi Media Company has been launched powered by YouTube.

As part of this agreement, music fans will be able to view professionally-created video content from artists on EMI's labels including Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol and Virgin, as well as the independent artists and labels represented by EMI Label Services and EMI's Caroline Distribution unit.

Vevo now offers more than 30,000 videos on their site for free and all content has been received via labels such as Universal, Sony, EMI Music. According to reports discussions are on with Warner Music Group Corp., the only major recording company not yet involved with Vevo.The site also contains programing from CBS radio stations and Last.fm which are both owned by CBS Corp.

The site has been launched with the support from 20 new advertising partnerships, including names like Colgate-Palmolive Co., MasterCard Inc., McDonald's Corp., and AT&T Inc. These advertisers will pay a near premium rate of around $20 to $45 for
every 1,000-page views, Vevo Chief Executive RioCaraeff said in an interview.

"Our agreement with EMI Music marks a milestone in our mission to provide fans everywhere with the world's best premium music video programming, when, where and how they want it," stated Vevo president and CEO Rio Caraeff. "We look forward to collaborating with EMI on introducing our users to new professionally-created entertainment products through a truly interactive platform. VEVO is about much more than just high-quality videos; it is also about original programming and strengthening the connection between artists and fans through a dynamic and engaging experience; and immediately providing advertisers with the scalability they desire and access to the most sought after demographic on the Web."

Vevo's debut comes as music companies are losing revenue and profits at a rapid tick due to the combined impact of falling sales of CDs, online piracy and evolving methods fans discover new music.
