Zubin Mehta bestowed with Israeli Presidential award

MUMBAI: India-born western classical music maestro Zubin Mehta was today honoured with the prestigious Israeli Presidential Award of Distinction for his contribution to the Israeli society.  The Israeli award equivalent of the French Legion of Honour or the Order of Canada, was presented to the conductor by Israeli President Shimon Peres at a ceremony organized at his official residence.

Ghazal legend Ghulam Ali's house robbed

MUMBAI: Renowned Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali’s house in Lahore was robbed of cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 7,00,000 in an armed heist. According to media reports, the singer’s brother Ashiq Ali stated that on Monday night four gunmen barged into their house in Defence Block J, locked the family inside a room and ransacked gold ornaments weighing around 90 tolas, cash worth Rs 7, 00,000 and several mobile handsets from the house. Ali said, “The robbers ransacked the family room for about one and a half hours, and there after used a white car to flee.”

AIR to revamp FM channels across metros

MUMBAI: In a bid to keep up with the competition by private FM broadcasters, All India Radio working under the aegis of Prasar Bharti has decided to revamp its FM channels – Rainbow and Gold, across the four metros. Taking a conscious effort to break away from the mould of serious radio, AIR will change its format and repackage shows after 32 years. It plans to focus more on intimate, friendly and interactive programming initiatives. The revamped stations will launch on 12 November.
