Irshad Kamil's gift to his readers for Valentine's Day

MUMBAI: For Irshad Kamil, writing lyrics is as simple as casting a spell for a magician. Renowned for songs like 'Maahi Ve' from the film 'Highway' and 'Aaoge Jab Tum Sajhna' from 'Jab We Met', the 43 year old launched his second book 'Ek Maheena Nazmon Ka'. The book comprises romantic poems, out of which a handful are what he calls "windows to poems".

Being launched in Mumbai, 'Ek Maheena Namazo Ka', will be released in various cities including Delhi, Indore, Jalandhar, Bhopal, Chandigarh and a few others. The launch was attended by Farah Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Deepti Naval, all of whom recited some of the poems from the book. Other attendees included Sunidhi Chauhan, Hitesh Sonik and many more.

The book is based on romance with a tinge of reality in the contemporary times. "Romance in Bollywood and real life is as different as chalk and cheese. All of us have become so mechanic, that romance seems to have distanced itself from our lives. This book resonates the thinking of the youth and talks about romance and philosophy. Therefore, I think this is an ideal gift for Valentine's Day," elucidated Kamil.

According to him, the book is reciprocation of the love he has got from his audience. "I had got such great responses for my previous book 'Bolti Deewarein' that I had to release this one. These are a few poems that I had written for myself and not for films. The situations in the poems are apt for the environment that we are living in today. Being a part of the youth I thought that it is important to elicit them," he said.

The lyricist is also working on a number of Bollywood projects, which include Imtiaz Ali's 'Tamasha' that has music composed by AR Rahman. His other project is 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', which will have music composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
