Microsoft strikes deal with Samsung Electronics

MUMBAI: After signing licensing agreements with leading android makers like Acer Inc and HTC Corp, Microsoft has signed another deal with google's largest manufacturing partner, Samsung Electronics Corp. According to deal, Microsoft and Samsung Electronics have agreed to cross-license each other's patent portfolios, with Microsoft getting royalties on the sales of Samsung's android based mobile phones and tablets.

IRS Q2-2011: Radio sector saw fall of 3% CAGR

MUMBAI: Radio sector's total reach has gone down to 161.45 million in the Q2 survey of the IRS for the year 2011. As per the Q2 data, radio sector's total reach has fallen by three per cent CAGR. This is however, less than a negative growth of 8.3 per cent which the sector had witnessed in the Q1 survey. Radio sector is finally looking up with the definitive buzz of phase III.

PPL launches 'Halla Bol' campaign for music copyright awareness

BANGALORE: Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL), the apex licencing arm of the Indian Music Industry (IMI) has launched a national campaign �Halla Bol' to create awareness about the music licensing laws in the country. McCann Worldgroup wins agency of the year at Mirchi Kaan Awards

MUMBAI: McCann Worldgroup has won the agency of the year award, while Cadbury India was honoured with client of the year title at the 8th Mirchi Kaan Awards. The metal for best use of radio as a medium was won by Mindshare for �Ajab Prem ki on-air kahani' for Idea Cellular. Also, Lingo India bagged the production house of the year title. The voice of the year award was given to Naman Jain for radio caption moment of weakness – father son created by Leo Burnett. Radio writer of the year was also won by Team McCann.

ArtistAloud to host 'TGIRF' for indie rock bands

MUMBAI: Giving an insight into the musical voyage of indie rock bands, ArtistAloud has come up with a new initiative called �TGIRF' (Thank God its Rock On Friday!) to promote and encourage indie rock bands and artistes in the country. Starting on Friday 30 September with rock band Parikrama, ArtistAloud.com will feature documentary rock band every week showcasing various elements of their musical journey, through a half- hour series. �TGIRF' is a month long series with 14 Indian Rock Bands including Raghu Dixit, Shefali Alvares, Swarathma, Pentagram and Agnee.
