Spotify predicts songs of Summer and introduces 'Your Summer Rewind' to India

MUMBAI: 2020 is shaping up to be many things, with a climate of uncertainty in many parts of the world. But one thing is clear; music played a role and will continue to do so this summer (and monsoon) - whether it’s with the newest hits, or tracks that bring about a wave of nostalgia.

Here are Spotify’s predictions for songs that are likely to soundtrack summer this year, while also introducing ‘Your Summer Rewind’ - a personalised playlist featuring your summer favourites from 2019.

Spanning a variety of genres - from hip-hop to indie - Spotify’s Songs of Summer predictions are based on a number of factors like streaming numbers, current trajectory and future forecasting from the platform’s global (and local, for each market) curation teams.

In India, Punjabi tracks like Badshah’s “Genda Phool”, Sidhu Moose Wala’s “Bambiha Bole” are likely to reign popular, along with international hits like “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd, “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, and Melanie Martinez’s “Play Date”. Other tracks that are likely to lead the summer listening on Spotify in India, include Ved Sharma’s “Malang (Title Track)”, “Meri Aashiqui” by Jubin Nautiyal & Rochak Kohli, as well as “Yalgaar” by Ajey Nagar (CarryMinati) & Yash Nagar (Wily Frenzy), “Skechers” by DripReport

Globally, DaBaby’s “ROCKSTAR”; Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” (featuring Beyonce); “TKN” by Rosalia, feat. Travis Scott; and “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles, which was released in 2019 but continues to stream in high number, are tracks likely to define the summer of 2020 on Spotify

Also included, are songs that have seen a resurgence recently as cultural conversations are focused on supporting the Black community: “This is America” by Childish Gambino, Beyoncé’s new track “BLACK PARADE”, and “Alright” by Kendrick Lamar are likely to be mainstays during summer 2020

If you want to take a walk down memory lane and listen to songs you love but may have forgotten about, you can listen to ‘Your Summer Rewind’ - a popular personalised playlist on Spotify (now available for users in India) featuring your summer favourites from 2019

Beginning today, Your Summer Rewind is available in all Northern Hemisphere markets for all Spotify listeners on iOS and Android

In order to qualify for Your Summer Rewind, listeners need to have previously listened to summer songs in previous years (i.e. they must have streamed a number of tracks during the summer of 2019)
