Sonu Nigam to have another surgery

MUMBAI: The Indian media has been constantly talking about Sonu Nigam’s health scare but the singer himself hasn't spoken much. However, we at Radioandmusic.com recently had the opportunity to talk to the 'Main Agar Kahoon' singer about his health and he opened up like never before.

To get an interview with the singer we reached his lovely bungalow Namah and after some wait, the singer walked towards us. Nigam looked exhausted as he rested himself on the couch of his living room and placed his legs straight. Out of concern, we questioned if the leg hurt and he very kindly replied, "I am fine" and we began with the interview.

We started by asking him about his surgery and the pain that he has been dealing with for the past two and a half months and he replied with the kind of clarity his fans had been waiting for. “I have been having cartilage issue for a year and a half. I have been limping all this while. So I thought of taking five-six months off my schedule to get it fixed. The first leg is done. The second leg will be coming very soon. So, I will once again be bedridden.”

The thought of another surgery did leave us cold, but Sonu seemed very optimistic about it as he explained, "It's slightly painful comburent process and it takes its own time. But, I am hoping that once the procedure is done I will be sorted for a lifetime.”

There is always a silver lining at the end of the tunnel and Sonu seemed to be envisioning it very clear.

Like most would, we too assumed that the second surgery would definitely mean a long break for Nigam, but before we could create an image of a bedridden Sonu, he burst our thought bubble, as he said, "I sang for Sarbjit’s ‘Dard’ just 15 days after my first surgery and Azhar's 'Tu Hi Na Jaane’ soon after it. I have sung a lot of songs in this condition and I have done a pretty decent job."

After a little pause, he added, "I think sitting at home doing nothing has taught me to value work even more."

Though Sonu has been healing fast he still needs help while, moving around. For, a free-spirited soul like Nigam this illness seemed too harsh as the singer confessed, "I miss self-reliance."
