Kailash Kher: Item songs are a part of creativity

MUMBAI: The crooner of songs like 'Mere Nishaan' and 'Allah Ke Bande'- Kailash Kher has been juggling with the roles of a singer, composer and a lyricist. Recently the 41 year old composed music for the movie 'Desi Kattey' which stars Suniel Shetty, Jay Bhanushali and Sasha Agha.

Talking to Radioandmusic's Dhairya Ingle about the brief of the film given to him he said, "The story is about two boys who are orphans and since they do not have relatives, the only relation they know is friendship. So the songs revolve around the subject of friendship." The project is very close to his heart as even Kher has faced hardships in his life and then, only real friends stood beside him.

When asked which of the roles - composer, singer or a lyricist he enjoys the most, he promptly replied, "I love singing live and connecting to my audiences. But I even like it when I have new thoughts cropping up for a new song."

While speaking about the item numbers he also said that he does not have an issue with them as it is good to have a bit of a quirkiness. "At the end of the day we do enjoy these songs and they too are a part of creativity, so I believe that there is no point in disrespecting them."

According to Kher, it is necessary for an individual to have formal training in music even before standing in front of a mic. "It is always advisable to follow the process rather than just jumping directly to the mic. Only when you have formal training you reach the top most level," he emphasised.

When not recording, or not in the studio, he loves exploring the cuisines of the world. "I am a curious soul so I would love to explore the world and love staying close to the nature," he concluded.
