Mahlakshmi Iyer open to experiment

MUMBAI: Mahalakshmi Iyer has rendered her vocals not only for soothing numbers like 'Falak Tak Chal’, 'Tu Jaha’ and 'Bol Na Halke Halke’, but also peppy tracks like 'Rock N' Roll Soniye’ and Laung Da Lashkara’. However, the singer has been away from the industry and has been working on very few projects in Bollywood.

Commenting on the same, Iyer said to Radioandmusic, "Music has changed these days. Gone are the days when composers had five or ten singers. Today they have a huge variety to pick from and are open to experimenting. Thus you hear me less.” Personally she prefers singing soft melodious songs, which suit the texture of her voice. "However, I am open to experimenting,” she further added.

Iyer enjoys working with almost everyone, but has a very good rapport with Shankar Ehsaan Loy. "I have known Shankar for a long time. I mean both of us started our career almost at the same time and I have sung a lot of jingles for him as well. Once you are at the studio with Shankar, you actually do not realise when the song gets over. He creates such an amazing atmosphere for you.”

When not recording, the 'Jai Ho’ singer loves reading books and sketching. When quizzed about what kind of books she likes to read she said, "I love reading anything under the sun.” She also likes spending time with her family, who inspire her to do her best.
