Led ZeppelinÆs Jimmy Page presented with honourary doctoral degree by Berklee College

MUMBAI: On Saturday, the Berklee College of Music presented former guitarist of Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page with an honourary doctoral degree. The award was presented to him by the president of Berklee Roger H Brown with more than 4000 guests looking on. The event was held at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.

The legendary rocker also gave the commencement address to an audience of about 900 graduates. In his speech after receiving the degree, the 70 year old guitar legend said, “What a spirit there is here. Music has so much power across so many avenues. To be in a position to do the thing you’re best at, which is making music, and bringing joy and pleasure to other people, it can’t be much better than that. I wish to pass that on to all of you. Congratulations with your degrees and lots of success in the future."

Page was not on the only musician receiving an award. Alongside him, honourary doctorates were also presented to jazz pianist Geru Allen, R&B songwriter Valarie Simpson and youth jazz orchestra founder of the American Music Program Thara Memory.

In the past, the college has presented several other musicians with honourary degrees including Willie Nelson, Annie Lennox and Aerosmith frontman- Steven Tyler.
