Universal Music may sell off Virgin Records in EMI deal

MUMBAI: Universal Music is reportedly planning to sell off music label Virgin Records to win regulatory approval for the $1.9 billion takeover of EMI Group. Other labels that could be offered for sale include EMI Classics, Capitol Records and Parlophone Records. Universal will present potential concessions to European competition regulators in Brussels this week. Universal has agreed to buy EMI and combined they will have about 40 per cent market share in US and Europe, prompting concerns from anti-trust regulators in both continents.

German honour for music maestro Zubin Mehta

MUMBAI: India-born western classical music maestro Zubin Mehta will be honoured with grand cross order of merit by new German ambassador to India Michael Steiner next week. "Next weekend, I will bestow the commander's cross of the order of merit on maestro Zubin Mehta, who will come to India for this purpose," Steiner, who had presented his credentials to President Pratibha Patil this week, reports IANS.

Mark Ronson to produce Paul McCartney's new album

MUMBAI: Beatles legendary singer Paul McCartney has roped in Mark Ronson to produce his 16th studio album. According to reports, the album will comprise of classic tunes with a young hip edge and will be more contemporary as compared to any of his previous albums. McCartney released his fifteenth solo album in February, 'Kisses on the Bottom'. A source told a daily, “This week they went to the studio and started knocking about together to see what they can do together. Everybody's really excited about the prospect of Mark Ronson working with Paul McCartney.”

AIR fails to make any recruitment in last decade

NEW DELHI: All India Radio (AIR) has failed to sanction a single post in the last ten years despite the large number of stations set up during this period. AIR sources told Radioandmusic.com that a total of 62 stations had been set up in the last three years and the current year, and there was a proposal to set up stations at 225 places in the country.
