Jodhaa Akbar sweeps first Mirchi Music awards

MUMBAI: Composer A R Rahman and Ashutosh Gowariker's 2008 period feature film Jodhaa Akbar swept the honours at the first Mirchi Music Awards held in Mumbai on Saturday evening. While Rahman collected three Mirchi ladies, prime among them being the 'song of the year' honour for Jashn-e-bahara, Javed Ali was adjudged best male vocalist for the same song.

iTunes to hike rates from 7 April

MUMBAI: Apple's iTunes plans to increase the prices of hit singles and selected classic tracks to $1.29. With this price change, the online music store would be abandoning its 99-cent-only strategy. Although Apple has not publicly announced the date, industry sources believe the move would be in effect from 7 April.

MUMBAI: EMI Music and social networking site Project Playlist have reached an agreement to add the music company's recordings to the online catalog of the site. Project Playlist allows users to upload music and create and share playlists and boasts of more than 42 million registered users at playlist.com.

Red FM awards laud the awful, in style

MUMBAI: Many chappals were hurled on Friday evening at the fourth edition of the Red FM Bajaate Raho Awards held at the Chitrakoot grounds in Andheri, Mumbai. With celeb look alikes going on stage to receive the Bajaate raho �ghanta', it was a perfectly starry evening with singers and television stars making their presence felt as many other of their ilk got their share of brickbats.

BSNL, Hungama tie up for on demand entertainment store

MUMBAI: BSNL has tied up with Hungama Digital Media Entertainment to offer On-Demand Entertainment Store for its broadband users. This first-of-its-kind service in India will offer 50,000 songs and 1,000 videos in various languages. BSNL consumers can also get access to over 500 games as they subscribe to the digital store. The services on the digital store are available at competitive price points of Unlimited Music Downloads for Rs 149 per month and Unlimited Game Downloads for Rs 49 per month.

Percept, T-Series resolve differences on Tasveer

MUMBAI: Percept Picture Company and Super Cassettes Industries Ltd (T-Series) have amicably settled their differences. T-Series will withdraw from being a co-producer after receiving the entire payment from Percept. On Thursday, T-Series threatened to take legal action against PPC if it released Nagesh Kukunoor's 8X10 Tasveer, due for release on 3 April. T-Series claimed a cheque of Rs 66.7 million (cheque No. 897813) issued by PPC was dishonoured by the bank. Subsequently, PPC gave a fresh DD of the same amount (DD No. 194786) in lieu of the cheque.

BBC appoints Jane Berthoud as radio comedy head

MUMBAI: Bafta award winner Jane Berthoud has been appointed as head Radio Comedy at the BBC. She will be the first woman to hold this post. Berthoud replaces Paul Schlesinger, who moved to BBC's TV comedy department in January. She will report to BBC head of comedy Mark Freeland from 4 May, relieving current acting head Gareth Edwards. Edwards will be returning to his role as producer in BBC production television and radio.

MySpace India appoints Sandeep Suvarna as sr marketing manager

MUMBAI: MySpace India announced the appointment of Sandeep Suvarna as Senior Marketing Manager for India operations, on Friday. Suvarna comes in place of Tarun Tripathi, who quit as marketing and content director earlier this month. MySpace India country head had said at the time that Tripathi's position would be changed to ' a slightly different role'. Suvarna would now be responsible for driving the marketing strategy, public relations and distribution of Myspace products for users in India, and will directly report to Krishnan.

Parigi to continue as ENIL MD

MUMBAI: Entertainment Network India Ltd. (ENIL) Thursday announced that AP Paragi will continue to serve as the managing director of the company for the next two years, without any interruption in service. Paragi's stay at ENIL will continue till 31 July 2011, effective from 1 August, 2009, the company said in an announcement on Thursday. ENIL operates 32 FM stations under the Radio Mirchi brand and out-of-home (OOH) media under the Times OOH name.
