Ravi Shankar conferred Lifetime award by CNN-IBN

NEW DELHI: Internationally renowned sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar received the Lifetime Achievement Award from CNN-IBN on Monday. Music maestro A R Rahman, who brought home the prestigious Oscar this year for his compositions in â€?Slumdog Millionaire', was named the CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2009. Filmmaker-thespian Kamal Haasan shared the award for Special Achievements with the Indian Cricket Test Team.

CMDA to lay down guidelines for composers

MUMBAI: The Cine Music Directors Association has decided to lay down guidelines for composers, film's directors and producers as regards music of the film. Taking note of the recent trend that has up to three music directors working on a single film, the CMDA feels this often leads to inconvenience and humiliation for composers that get replaced by someone else. Also the issue of foreign composers working in India was discussed at the association's meet last week

American Idol, Dancing With The Stars most viewed TV shows in US

MUMBAI: Music-based reality shows American Idol and Dancing With The Stars have topped US media research company Nielsen's list of the most viewed TV shows in the US. Nielsen has released a year-end look at the most popular trends among Americans during 2009. American Idol that airs on Fox took the top two slots with a rating of 14.4 and 13.8 per cent. Dancing with the Stars on ABC had a rating of 12.5 per cent. Other programmes making the top 10 include NCIS which AXN recently acquired for Asia.

Radio City RJ Salil Acharya voices for Avatar

MUMBAI: Salil Acharya, the morning jock of Radio City who hosts �Kasa Kay Mumbai' with RJ Archana has lent his voice for the Hindi version of box-office grosser James Cameron's Avatar. Acharya has dubbed for the role of prince of the Na'vi race. Relating his experience of dubbing for Avatar, Acharya says, The voicing of the film began much before it was completed, so it was a challenge to render voices for mere graphics. The trickiest part is nobody knows how the mouth of the character will move in the final cut....

Community radio stations to launch in UP and MP

MUMBAI: The Saijyoti Gramodhyog Samaj Seva Sansthan and Sambhav Social Service Organization will set up their community radio station in Lalitpur (UP) and Shivpuri (MP) respectively within an estimated three months time. According to a government release, the ministry of Information and Broadcasting has signed Grant of Permission Agreements (GoPA) to establish CR stations in Lalitpur (UP) and Shivpuri (MP) with Saijyoti Gramodhyog Samaj Seva Sansthan, Lalitpur, and Sambhav Social Service Organization, Gwalior.

Govt accepts resignation of Prasar Bharti chairman

MUMBAI: The Government has accepted the resignation of Prasar Bharati board chairman Arun Bhatnagar. Bhatnagar had submitted his resignation in May this year. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had asked Bhatnagar to continue in his post in view of the case pending against BS Lali's extension as Prasar Bharati CEO in which the court wanted Bhatnagar's assistance. Meanwhile, two other members of the Prasar Bharti board, SK Bisaria and Sunil Dang, have also left following completion of their six-year term.

CNN-IBN names A R Rahman 'Entertainer of the Year'

MUMBAI: Academy Award-winning musician AR Rahman beat off competition from Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan to be named Indian of the Year in the Entertainment category by CNN-IBN, says a PTI report. With two Oscars and multiple international awards under his belt, Rahman was a natural choice for the honour, said the channel. "Rahman has redefined contemporary Indian music and is the pride of the entire nation also an idol to millions for making a mark on the global music arena," Rajdeep Sardesai, editor-in-chief, IBN Network 18, said in a press statement.

BANGALORE: Leonia Holistic Resorts (Leonia) has announced that it will be spending over Rs 100 million towards media for promotion of its brands, especially the mother brand Leonia Resorts and its convention center. Leonia's director of business development G Raghu also announced New Year's campaign and various packages for the new year's eve. Leonia expects over 6000 guests for its New Year eve's program.
