Universal Music Publishing Group inks deals with Demi Lovato, Safehouse Publishing

MUMBAI: Universal Music Publishing Group chairman and CEO Jody Gerson announced inking a couple of deals today this week. The company has signed Demi Lovato for global publishing and has also signed a joint venture with Safehouse Publishing, which is a division of Safehouse Records.

Safehouse Publishing is co-owned by Lovato, Nick Jonas and their manager, music executive Phil McIntyre. Safehouse Publishing did its first deal with Chord Overstreet, son of Paul Overstreet and alumni of Fox series Glee.

Speaking on the deal Lovato said, “I am thrilled to be in business with Universal Music Publishing Group for both my music and our label, Safehouse Records. This new relationship is allowing me to grow as a musician and an entrepreneur and, most importantly, it is allowing me to create an inspiring environment for other artists.”

Jonas asserted, “Safehouse Records has been a passion project for Phil, Demi and for me over the years. We are happy we found the perfect home at Universal Music Publishing Group.”

Jody Gerson was named Billboard's Women in Music executive of the year on 11 December this year. Speaking about Lovato she said, “Lovato an authentic role model and a compelling artist and songwriter."

Gerson also praised Philymack CEO and founder of Phil McIntyre. She added, “In addition, Phil McIntyre is such a great manager with vision. I’ve always been impressed with his entire management team, and the commitment and support they give their artists. Phil has been such great partner and this venture with Safehouse Publishing will allow us to develop talent and new projects together.”

This year in May, Safehouse Records announced a joint venture with Island Records whereas in November, McIntyre partnered with Roc Nation management.

Commenting on this new development McIntyre said, “Having a trusted, powerful partner to help us turn our dream into a reality is incredibly exciting. We believe in our vision to build a safe community for artists and writers to work together and to help each other to make amazing art."

Nick Jonas was also signed with Universal Music Group this year after the success of No.1 platinum hit single ‘Jealous’ from his solo album Nick Jonas with Island Records.
