Surya Mantha quits Saregama as MD

MUMBAI: After a stint of more than a year with music label Saregama, MD Surya Mantha has put down his papers. Sources confirmed the news to Radioandmusic.com.

Mantha's journey with Saregama began last January when he replaced G. B. Aayeer, who was managing the responsibility after Apurv Nagpal quit in April 2012.

Prior to this, Mantha was with Omidyar Network and served as director (Investments) for two years and eight months from April 2010 to November 2012. He was also with Web18 as CEO for three years and six months starting October 2006. For a year and two months, Mantha was also associated with Sify India as the SVP interactive services. He also worked with RealNetworks in early 2000. He is a Kanpur IItian who holds an MBA degree in finance and PhD in computer science.

After giving Sony DADC power to exploit their content physically, the Saregama team had been building its digital infrastructure in order to strength its hold in the music business. The company had planned to come out with many new deals and partnerships in first few month of the year.

In 2013, Saregama witnessed a few departures and appointments in the digital team. In March last year, Madhusudhan Ranganathan quit Saregama as the VP digital. In August, Gaana co-founder Avinash Mudaliar was appointed as Saregama Internet products and services head.
