Spud in the Box to release debut full length album in October

MUMBAI: After recording at Yash Raj Studios late last year, Mumbai-based six piece alternative rock band Spud in the Box are looking at releasing the band’s debut full length studio album this October.

Confirming the same to Radioandmusic.com, vocalist and guitarist Ankit Dayal also said that the band has recorded upto 12 songs, but are currently deliberating on whether to release 10 tracks or 15. "It will all depend on how the album turns out," he said.

Dayal further added that the yet-untitled album is different from the band’s last record, its ‘Attention Please’ EP, which was released more than two years ago.

He said, “The album is darker than ‘Attention Please.’ The new tracks have more depth and show an interesting balance between light and dark elements.”

In 2013, the band got a new drummer in Joshua Singh, who replaced Vivaan Kapoor. “Josh brought a new style to the band and the band’s style changed. We went to unexplored fields,” Dayal said.

Speaking further on the new record, which will be released physically and digitally by Asli Music, Dayal said that the album has moved away from pop-rock, and the band members have incorporated an alternative/progressive element to the album. “The songs are longer, with each song taking its listener on a journey. We want our listeners to go on a sound-scape when they listen to the new tracks,” he added.

The record has been in the making for the past three to four years. “We had a few new songs that we never played live. Those songs have now fallen into some kind of a story, which is what we aim to tell through the album,” he said.

“Each song in the album is a story about a character, showcasing more than just the experiences ofthe character. It will also showcase the highs and lows that he/she goes through,” added Dayal.

Throwing light on another aspect of human nature the record will exhibit, which is beating around the bush. “People do not say what they mean; they beat around the bush,” he explained.

Spud in the Box will soon perform at Hard Rock Café with an album tour being planned in October to coincide with the release of the album. The band is scheduled to perform at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender later this year in Kolkata and Delhi.

The band currently consists of Joshua Singh on drums, Zubin Bhathena on bass, Rohan Rajadhakshya on vocals and keyboards, Ankit Dayal on vocals and guitar, and Hartej Sawhney and Siddharth Talwar on guitars.
