I&B Ministry's FY'13 budget is Rs 27.37 bn

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry's total plan and non-plan budget for 2012-13 has risen marginally to Rs 27.37 billion compared to Rs 26.44 billion last year and the revised estimates of Rs 26.05 billion. The allocation for the Ministry includes an outlay of Rs 935.5 million for projects in the north eastern part of the country including Sikkim.

Radio Mirchi, Rockstar bag honours at Ficci Excellence Awards 2012

MUMBAI: Continuing their winning streak for the third consecutive year, Radio Mirchi bagged the Best Radio Channel award at the 13th Ficci Excellence Awards 2012. Besides Mirchi, Big FM won an award for the Largest Radio Network. In the film category, Rockstar's music swept away two awards: Best Music Director - AR Rahman and Best Playback Singer Male - Mohit Chauhan. Usha Uthup and Rekha Bharadwaj won the Best Playback Singer Female award for ‘7 Khoon Maaf’.

Budget: Entertainment, amusement services exempted from service tax

NEW DELHI: The Government today placed "admission to entertainment or access to amusement services" in the Negative List – a new List for which there will be no service tax. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in his budget speech for 2012-13 today announced exemption of the film industry from service tax on copyrights relating to recording of cinematographic films. He said that this was being done "to add to the spirit of celebration" since the year 2012 marks the beginning of the centenary year of Indian cinema.

MTV to launch social site for musicians

MUMBAI: In a bid to replace MySpace, MTV has taken an initiative to launch a social site allowing artistes to customize their music, video, merchandise and ticket sales through ‘Artists.MTV’.
