Aa Dekhein Zara

Label - Eros,

Music Director - Pritam, Gaurav Dasgupta,

Rating - 2.5,

Producers Eros cannot be faulted for not having tried innovations to market their latest offering. For Aa Dekhen Zara, they have launched a band by goes by the initials of the film's title. Lead actor Neil Nitin Mukesh stepped up on stage to lend his persona and vocals at the music launch of the film last week, and the band hopes to do the pub and disc round in an effort to plug the music. The score is a combination of efforts - some tracks have been composed by Pritam, some by Gaurav Dasgupta. The result consequently is  a mixture. Not to mention, the title track takes off from a powerful yesteryear hit - and if the recent trend of remixes and 'tributes' is any indication, should do well on the FM radio and disc circuits too.

The opening track Gazab is a good listen, despite the lyrics sounding a tad corny.

The song is a fusion by Pritam Chakraborty with Indian and western elements merging together to sound relatively nice. This item number sung by Shaan and Sunidhi gets you moving to the beat and is a more or less catchy number. Pritam Chakraborty had refused to work on the title track of Aa Dekhen Zara, as he felt unable to tamper with the original composition by R D Burman.

Rock the party... by Gaurav Dasgupta has familiar beats playing in the background but proves to be an appealing and upbeat track as Bipasha Basu sizzles in the video for the song. The song is an introductory piece for her role in the movie as a DJ. The song is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shweta Vijay but sadly sounds similar to other disco songs of the past.

There are two versions of the title track Aa Dekhen Zara. One is more on the fast paced side and the other is a slower lounge version. In the upbeat version, Gaurav Dasgupta retains the musical aesthetics of the original composition and adds electronic beats that give it a discotheque feel. Having the lead actor in the movie singing the title track is definitely good for the popularity of the song. Fortunately, Neil Nithin Mukesh ends up doing a fairly good job considering that attempts made to tamper with original numbers are not usually welcomed with open arms. He provides strong vocals to this version of R D Burman's original composition and is packed with energy.

The lounge version of Aa Dekhen Zara is an innovative offering with a slow and rather soothing arrangement that stands out amidst the strong and powerful vocals lent skilfully by Dibyendu Mukherjee.

Dibyendu Mukherjee lends his vocals to yet another song – Power. As a theme song it fails to deliver - trying extremely hard to add to the thriller aspect of the movie with an almost rock like feel to it but ultimately ends up forgettable.

Mohabbat Aapse sung by Akriti Kakkar is a romantic number that has a slightly seductive ring to it. One can easily picture Bipasha Basu in the video. Having lent her vocals to Johnny Ghaddar, Akriti proves to be impressive once again.

All in all, the music of Aa Dekhen Zara proves to be a blend of some good music and some not so good music - a decent soundtrack with a few tracks worth listening to.
