Pune-based musician Prateek Bhaduri to release multi-lingual EP in December

MUMBAI: Balancing his work on power metal band 'Infidels of Sanity' and alternative rock band 'What Plough?', Pune-based linguist singer/songwriter Prateek Bhaduri is all set to release his original compositions in his upcoming EP, 'Different Shades of Me'. The extended play will feature tracks in three languages viz., English, Hindi and Bengali.

Bhaduri spoke to Radioandmusic.com on showcasing his linguistic skills for the EP. When asked about producing a multi-lingual EP, Bhaduri said, “Singing in one language restricts the reach of my music. But, singing in more than one language increases my chances at securing a larger base of listeners.” Bhaduri further added, “Having the ability to write songs in three languages allows more people to connect better with the sound of my music.”

Bhaduri had previously stated the reason for him singing on stage in multiple languages. He said that being afraid of crowd reactions, midway through a song, he switched to Hindi and the crowd's response was phenomenal. Since then, Bhaduri has been convinced to sing in languages other than English.

Having spent most of his life in Pune, one assumes that he would also sing in Marathi. However, Bhaduri refrains from doing so. He said, “Even though I can speak Marathi well, I cannot speak it well enough to write a Marathi song. I feel that when you produce a song, it should be regarded as it supposed to be. I do not mean to hurt people.”

Bhaduri replaced the lead vocalist of the band What Plough? Early this year and stumbled upon Refractor Studios, run by Noiseware guitarist Adhiraj Singh, through them. There, he is hard at work on his EP. His next single will be in Hindi and would sound very different from his first single 'Drift Deeper'.

He told Radioandmusic.com that every song in the EP narrates a different story. Bhaduri added that whilst composing, he first composes the vocal and acoustic melodies soon followed by the lyrics and the arrangement.

Currently, Prateek Bhaduri's first single 'Drift Deeper' is available for free download through his SoundCloud account. But, when his second single releases early next month, it will not be available for free download. Soon after releasing the second single, Bhaduri will release a small preview of the EP for listeners to stream. And based on the audience reception, he will deliberate on whether or not to make the album available for free download.

Bhaduri will soon be seen hitting the stage in Mumbai, but details on dates of his performance are kept under wraps.
