OMFM moots reviving non-Bollywood music

MUMBAI: The Indian music industry will see a strong representation at international music confernce One Movement For Music (OMFM) this time as six speakers belonging to the Indian music fraternity discuss some of the key issues at this pioneering music conference in Perth, Australia to be held during October 16- 18, 2009.

The official website recently announced its first round of speakers, and out of the many international key speakers, OMFM has shortlisted Saregama vice president A&R Atul Churamani and Soundbuzz general manager Mandar Thakur. Four more speakers will be announced by the first week of September, says OMFM India strategic advisor Sudhir Sreedharan.

One Movement For Music (OMFM) is the combined effort of A&R Worldwide (the force behind MUSEXPO and MUSEXPO Europe), Chugg Entertainment (Pollstar 2009's International Promoter of the Year) and Sunset Events (Australian music festival specialists). Through its partners, One Movement For Music Perth has offices in Perth, Sydney, Singapore, London and Los Angeles.

Speaking about the issues to be addressed at the conference, Sreedharan says, "Some of the key areas would be to focus on revival of non-Bollywood music, collaboration and cross pollination among indian musicians and that around the globe and the present technological challenges."

Mandar Thakur, one of the shorlisted speakers, says, "There are very few conferences that stand out and are relevant to the present age and time. I think OMFM captures real people from the live music scene, record industry and the digital music space."

Some of the music business personalities scheduled to speak at the conference are Warner Bros Vice President Seymour Stein, Coldpay's manager Dave Holmes, and Diane Warren who in the past has written some of the greatest hits for artists like Cher, Aerosmith and Celine Dion.

OMFM will see some fireworks on the live music front as a line-up of new artistes take the stage to perform in front of industry stalwarts. The two day event will feature close to 80 bands from around the globe, with artistes like Hilltop Hoods, MySpace's multiple-million hit sensation Meiko, Little Red, Scribe and Old Man River. There's good news on this front as two Indian bands, yet to be announced, will get to perfrom at this international platform.

Sreedharan is currently in the process of shorlisting two Indian bands for the event. Speaking about the parameters, he says, "The selection will be based on originality and experience in live performing. We are looking for a band who can represent the Indian spirit." The two selected bands will be announced by 15 September 2009.
