India picks up 4 Cannes Radio Lions entries

MUMBAI: The number of entries at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2009 in the radio category went up from 36 last year to 52 this year. Of these, four Indian entries in Radio were shortlisted for Radio Lions.

The Indian entries in Radio Lions shortlisted include Publicis India for their work done for Stedfast in the Cosmetics, beauty and toiletries category, Bates 141 was shortlisted in the Commercial Public Services category for Virgin Mobile India. The other two include DDB Mudra's Bush advertisement assigned by Islamic Research Foundation in the Charities, Public Health and safety, Public Awareness Messages category. Incidentally, the same spot was the only Indian entry to bag a Bronze pencil at New York's One Show 2009.

The fourth entry is Rediffusion Y&R which, was shortlisted for their project for American India Foundation again in the category of Charities, Public Health and safety, Public Awareness Messages. This Rediffusion Y&R's advert Vandana was the only Indian entry shortlisted in the Radio category (single entries) for the Clio Awards 2009. The spot also won a silver at the Adfest 2009 in the radio category.

The number of entries of Indian entries for Radio Lions increased from 36 last year to 52 this year. Last year India had bagged only a Bronze Lion Radio by Mudra Communications for their campaign for Cycle Agarbatti. The two entries in this winning campaign were �Om Jai Jagdish' and �Jai Dev'.

The total number of entries for Radio Lion shortlisted across countries is 167. Germany has the highest number of shortlisted entries at 27, followed by USA- 23, South Africa-14, 11 with UK and New Zeland, six with Netherlands. The others include six entries for Canada, five for Colombia, eight for Poland and so on.

Lowe Worldwide Matthew Bull chief creative officer is the Jury President for the Radio Lions category. Publicis Ambience national creative director Ashish Khazanchi is the Indian juror for Radio Lions. The judging process for Radio Lions commenced on June 19, 2009 and ended on June 22, 2009.
