Big FM signs-up for 'Radio Everyone'; chalking out week-long plan

MUMBAI: Reliance Group's Big FM partners with ‘‘Radio Everyone’’, as part of The Global Goals campaign, to highlight  the UN’s Global Goals for sustainable development- a series of ambitious targets to completely end extreme poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change for everyone by 2030. Big FM plans to air documentaries, exclusive interviews, exclusive songs created by musicians, and many other initiatives, to promote the cause through ‘‘Radio Everyone’ Campaign’ by United Nation (UN). Oscar winning musician AR Rahman and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan are the first two Indian personalities confirmed to take on radio this September.

Big FM will serve as the radio partner supporting the campaign in India. There are also other broadcasters supporting the campaign across the world, including BBC Music in the UK, WNYC & Public Radio International in the USA, Ray Power FM in Nigeria, SABA and its members across 15 countries, Radio Romania, Radio2 Rai in Italy, the Mercury Media Group in Indonesia, and Deutsche Welle internationally.

Commenting on the association, Reliance Broadcast Network Limited EVP and national business head, Ashwin Padmanabhan said, “Reliance Group has extended its support for The Global Goals campaign, which made UN give Big FM the responsibility to spread awareness about its goal. Yet another role of Big FM in this campaign will be to encourage people from all walks of life to come together and help the cause reach its target.” Big FM will bring on board celebrities, along with supporters at various levels to talk about their journey on-air. The week-long campaign will be spread across 45 cities, 1,200 towns and 50,000+ villages, and will have a weekly reach of 4.2 crore listeners across India, which will help disseminate information in an entertaining way. Big FM is the first radio station to sign-up in India for the campaign.

‘Radio Everyone’ which is a sub-set of ‘The Global Goals’ campaign, will be adopted by 193 world leaders from countries like India, Brazil, Nigeria and Indonesia among others, at the United Nations, New York, on 25 September 2015. After the UN assembly, a week-long radio campaign will kick-start, from 26 September to 2 October 2015 and will reach seven billion people in seven days. ‘Radio Everyone’ will also feature a special segment titled 'Global Superheroes’ where iconic figures from around the world share amazing stories from everyday people. A soundtrack will also be composed by Peter Gabriel and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

Listeners around the world will be able to access ‘Radio Everyone’ via an online stream.

Roshan will take on the role of ‘Radio Everyone’s global communicators and Rahman will join with other global musicians for ‘Radio Everyone’ including Cody Simpson, D’Banj, Ice Prince and 2Face Idibia. Commenting on Rahman’s presence on Big FM, Padmanabhan said, “AR Rahman will be live on Big FM and will also do some recorded activity on radio. We will put in our best efforts to create an impact through our content.” He added, “We will have similar design across station, however, the execution will differ.”

‘Radio Everyone’ will take highlights from the six hour Central Park’s Global Citizen Festival which will be held on 26 September. The festival will feature acts like Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Pearl Jam.

Padmanabhan revealed that Big FM is chalking out plans to carry on activities on its digital platform as well. Apart from Big FM, Reliance group’s Big Magic and Big Ganga will also be promoting the campaign.
