Global mobile phone sales fell by 1.7 per cent in 2012: report

MUMBAI: Inspite of a growth in the sector, the global mobile phone sales were hit by tough economic conditions and fell by 1.7 per cent in 2012, according to a report from research company Gartner. Owing largely to shifting consumer preferences and intense market competition, worldwide sales to end users totaled to around 1.75 billion units in 2012, a 1.7 per cent decline from sales in 2011.

Digital music to grow faster than music industry in India

Government regulations holding FM back: Jehil Thakkar

Lady Gaga postpones tour dates

MUMBAI: Paparazzi queen Lady Gaga has postponed her gigs scheduled in the US, due to a painful injury that has left her unable to walk. The singer was forced to postpone four shows of her ‘Born This Way Ball’ concert. Gaga apparently had hurt herself more than a month ago and is suffering from synovitis, which is severe inflammation of the joints. The songstress posted on her social networking page, "I barely know what to say. I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, over the past month it has worsened. I've been praying it would heal.”

Community radio stations yet to see execution of initiatives

MUMBAI: Even as the I&B Minister Manish Tewari announced the proposal to earmark Rs 1 billion for development of community radio stations in the Twelfth Five Year Plan, most community radio stations are still awaiting the execution of many such initiatives announced in the past. The government had earlier announced a fund of Rs 50 lakhs and also approved to provide advertisements from DAVP to the community radio stations for a period of one year, but the decisions are yet to see the light of the day as currently only 15 radio stations are DAVP registered and approved.

Indian Music Industry eyes 7-10 per cent growth in 2013

MUMBAI: The Indian Music Industry (IMI) went through a lot of ups and downs in the last fiscal. It was a colourful year with new business opportunities emerging in the forms of internet and mobile but raking in moolah remained a major concern. The music industry which was reported to be around Rs 575 crores (legitimate market, excluding piracy) in 2011 has grown to Rs 600 crore, with physical sales attributing between Rs 250-300 crores and digital sales to Rs 350-400 crores. The industry is expected to grow between 7-10 per cent in 2013.
