Nokia, Flipkart, Vodafone top Nielsen consumer rankings

MUMBAI: Finnish handset maker Nokia has beaten current favourites Samsung and Apple and emerged as the most preferred handset brand in the telecom sector, according to the latest Nielsen consumer rankings in the country. Nokia is the most preferred mobile handset brand, followed by Samsung and Blackberry. Amongst the mobile operators Vodafone attained the lead while the second and third place were secured by Airtel and Idea respectively.

Pt Ravi Shankar to receive 'Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony'

NEW DELHI: The late sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar is to receive the first 'Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony' instituted by the Government of India. President Pranab Mukherjee announced the award as he addressed the first joint sitting of the budget session of Parliament today. During 2012, government commemorated the 150th Birth Anniversaries of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, Madan Mohan Malaviya and  Motilal Nehru apart from undertaking preparatory work for observing the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and the centenary of the Gadar movement.

I&B seeks Cabinet approval for young Prasar Bharati member

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) wants the post of member (finance) in Prasar Bharati to be filled as expeditiously as possible, if the public broadcaster has to embark on a path of change in financial and administrative reforms. The ministry has therefore written to the Union Cabinet seeking its approval in this regard, since this post has been vacant for over three months since the last incumbent AK Jain was transferred.

100 glorious years of Indian Cinema: Indian youth monitor tobacco imagery in Bollywood films!

NEW DELHI: In a unique ongoing monitoring campaign named ‘Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down’, HRIDAY (Health Related Information Dissemination Amongst Youth) in technical collaboration with the University of California, has engaged school and college going youth from Delhi to monitor depictions of tobacco use and tobacco imagery in the newly released Bollywood films. The campaign, supported by World Health Organization – Regional Office for South-East Asia, involves inculcating critical watching and advocacy skills among youth by engaging them as film reviewers.
