Delhi's street children learn to rock

MUMBAI: For some music is entertainment, but its potential and power goes way beyond. And this is exactly what Music Basti, a unique music based project for street children has been exploring for the last two years. Music Basti is a youth led volunteer program that creates partnerships with different institutions, organisations, artistes, musicians, bands and trains them in understanding the importance of human rights, and promotion of the right to expression, using music a tool. At present there are over 250 children who are part of the outreach of Music Basti.

Govt firm on central regulatory mechanism for TV, radio

MUMBAI: Information and Broadcasting Secretary Raghu Menon advocated the need for a three-tier regulatory mechanism for the media in the country, indicating that the government is firm on setting up a regulatory body at the national level. Inaugurating a seminar on �Marketing Responsibly' organised by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) here, Menon said apart from individual self regulation and an industry body, the sector should have a third level of regulatory body established with a legislative backing.

Indian musicians to bring 'Swastika' into spotlight

Mumbai: Some of India's best musicians will give a unique perspective to world's oldest symbol, the 'Swastika', in an elaborate two hour musical on June 12, 2010 in Mumbai. Founder and violinist Ratish Tagde of Perfect Octave will be presenting this thematic creation. "In India swastika is known as auspicious symbol, however, no one knows that Swastika has been known for different meaning all over the world. There is no religion attached to this meaning, and there is no ambiguity over the meaning of these four sides," he opines.

CBS sends Reliance Media World on a sprint

MUMBAI: Anil Ambani's FM radio and OOH company, Reliance Media World Limited (RMWL), is on a sprint. The scrip has hit the upper circuit for six straight days since news broke out that it has plans to hold 50 per cent stake in a broadcasting venture that would have US media giant CBS as an equal partner. Shares of RMWL gained 33.42 per cent to close Monday at Rs 64.75, seeing six days in the green on the trot.

Rustam Fateh Ali Khan to tour India soon

MUMBAI: Pakistan based singer Rustam Fateh Ali Khan, who recently released Meri Dharkan with Indian record label Worldwide Records, is set to tour India soon. Though details and dates are not yet known, about 100 shows are being planned, Rustam said. The classical singer who has spent 18 years performing pure classical music will be touring as a part of the 'Rustam Fateh Ali Khan' band in a complete makeover. "So far I have only performed pure classical music, but now I will be experimenting with fusion," he says. The singer also hopes to sing for bollywood soon.

AIR bags awards at International radio festival

MUMBAI: The FM Rainbow Channel of All India Radio, Jalandhar pocketed four â€?international awards' for its programme â€?Good Morning Punjab' at the 11th International Radio Festival in Iran.  All India Radio Jalandhar centre director S C Pawar told reporters that the programme "Good Morning Punjab!" aired by the station here has bagged four first prizes out of 10 in the morning category programmes. This was the fourth time that the All India Radio has won a prize in Iran, AIR Station Director B C Panwar.
