Hariharan to receive Lata Mangeshkar Award

MUMBAI: Renowned playback singer Hariharan is all set to receive a prestigious award. The Madhya Pradesh government recently made the announcement to confer its prestigious ‘Lata Mangeshkar Samman Alankaran’ to the veteran. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Hariharan said, “It is a good feeling to be awarded. There are so many awards but state awards and President’s award is fulfilling. Awards are to be enjoyed and not to be taken for granted.” He will be the 28th recipient of the award. Last year, music composer Rajesh Roshan was conferred with the award.

Leo Burnett withdraws two radio spots from Goafest 2013

MUMBAI: In a surprising turn of events, leading ad agency Leo Burnett has withdrawn its two radio spots for Tata Salt Lite from the Goafest Creative Abbies. The radio entries had been awarded two Gold and two Silver Abbys this year in the Radio and Radio Craft categories at the eight edition of the advertising festival.

Universal Music Group partners Jay-Z's Roc Nation

MUMBAI: Jay-Z’s entertainment company Roc Nation have partnered with Universal Music Group (UMG). As part of the worlwide agreement, forthcoming albums from Jay-Z, Rihanna and many others will be released through UMG worldwide. This five year deal will allow Roc Nation to continue as an independent label company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Google may acquire Whatsapp for $1 billion

MUMBAI: Social media app Whatsapp may soon joint internet giant Google.  The talks on the deal started four or five week ago, if the reports are believed. Earlier, Facebook also had plans to acquire Whatsapp. According to the report, “Messaging app Whatsapp is in the negotiating phase over prices with Google in what could be Google’s next billion dollar acquisition," according to an inside source.

I&B awaits Planning Commission clearance for funds for CRS

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry is awaiting clearance from the Planning Commission of its scheme for supporting community radio stations in the country. Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has informed the Standing Committee on Information Technology that an EFC memo has also been prepared and will be circulated to concerned Ministries as soon as the in principle clearance is received from the Commission.

Lata Mangeshkar's LM Music plans extensive expansion

MUMBAI: With an aim to increase LM label’s catalogue with high quality content, LM Music within four months have launched eight albums and will be launching few more albums in coming months. This is only one quarter of its plans, as the record label aims to promote non-film music and independent artistes also through concerts and by hosting workshops. LM also plan to launch a reality show for new artistes and talents, giving them a platform to launch their work on the label and promote their work.

FM radio station in Ludhiana soon: Manish Tewari

MUMBAI: Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has promised to create a FM station in Ludhiana soon. Tewari said two acres of land is needed for the installation of the FM radio station. He appealed to local MLAs and industrialists to arrange for the plot so that the proposal may be processed further. Tewari further said that the auction of 839 FM radio stations in 294 cities of the country will be completed within the next six months and he desired that Ludhiana should soon have an FM radio station.
