The year should see more balanced distribution of hits: Neeti Mohan

MUMBAI: The year should see a more balanced distribution of hit songs from Bollywood across genres than being dominated by item numbers alone, playback singer Neeti Mohan has said. With the previous two years being dominated by upbeat item numbers, the music industry has suddenly witnessed a surge of such tracks being featured in most bollywood films. Most directors now use it as a 'success mantra' with the audiences to garner buzz and increase ticket sales.

Teen sensation Soumita Saha releases Emptiness III - Tere Bina

MUMBAI: Teen Singer Soumita Saha recently released her new music video 'Tere Bina', the latest track in her Emptiness series of albums. Inspired by the famous song, 'Maine Mere Jaana' by Kausiki Diwakar, Emptiness III portrays the gloomy picture of the heart when love vanishes from someone's life. Speaking about the song, Saha said, "My version of Emptiness is not about pleading the lost love to come back. It’s about the emptiness and the loneliness caused when the love is lost from life".

The Mud Rush fest to host line-up of international DJs

Britney Spears inks USD 100mn performance deal

MUMBAI: Bringing her career back on track, pop diva Britney Spears has finalized a USD 100 million deal for a year-long residency stint at Las Vegas’ famous Ceaser Palace hotel. Spears is expected to complete her paperwork by January end and begin her 80-date in late spring. The contract is believed to be on a rolling one-year basis, which means that she will need to complete at least two years to earn the full 100 million. There is also likely to be a clause stating that she must appear in a set number of shows before she gets paid, reports said.

Deep Forest to headline Sulafest 2013

Warner Music sued for around USD 15mn over royalties

MUMBAI: Music giant Warner Music Group has been sued by the heirs of composer George Gershwin, who have filed a lawsuit in New York state court seeking USD 15mn for the underpayment of royalties and other accounting discrepancies. The lawsuit objects to the way the music giant has licensed famous compositions and booked revenue. It states that the company diluted profits by giving exorbitant fees to third parties during licensing agreements abroad. The entire Gershwin catalogue makes a reported USD 8mn a year in royalties.
